BILL WATCH
PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEES SERIES 25/2014
[9th May 2014]
Committee Meetings Open to the Public Monday 12th May
The committee meetings listed below will be open to the public on Monday
12th May. Open meetings for the rest of the week will be listed in a
separate bulletin.
Members of the public may attend these meetings, but as observers only, not
as participants, i.e. they may listen but not speak. The meetings are at
Parliament in Harare. If attending, please use the entrance on Kwame
Nkrumah Ave between 2nd and 3rd Streets. Note that IDs must be produced.
The above details are based on the latest information from Parliament. But,
as there are sometimes last-minute changes to the meetings schedule, persons
wishing to attend should avoid disappointment by checking with the relevant
committee clerk [see names below] that the meeting is still on and open to
the public. Parliament's telephone numbers are Harare 700181 and 252940/1.
Reminder
Members of the public, including Zimbabweans in the Diaspora, can at any
time send written submissions to Parliamentary committees by email addressed

Trafficking in Persons Bill: Forthcoming Public Hearings
The Portfolio Committee on Defence, Home Affairs and Security Services will
be undertaking public hearings on the Trafficking in Persons Bill, on dates
and at venues still to be announced. At its meeting next week [not open to
the public] it will be considering its itinerary for these hearings.
Interested persons should therefore be finalising their submissions for
presentation at these hearings - or for submission to the portfolio
committee in writing. Veritas has discussed the Bill in detail in two
bulletins [Bill Watches 7/2014 and 8/2014 of 20th February]. [Soft copies
of the Bill are available from the addresses given at the end of this
bulletin.]
Trafficking in persons is also of interest to the Senate's Thematic
Committee on Peace and Security. This committee will hear oral evidence on
border patrols and human trafficking from the Ministries of Defence and Home
Affairs at its meeting next Thursday morning [details to be given in our
next bulletin].
